Wakerupper.com–Delivering Reminders by Phone
Waking up in the morning can be a pain, and if you’re one of those people who pays more attention to your cell phone ringer than your alarm, taking Wakerupper for a spin may not be a bad idea.
Just like it’s website, the idea behind Wakerupper is super basic; you set up a time to be called and, at that time, you are called. Upon answering, a pre-recorded voice says to you, “Hello, this is your telephone reminder from Wakerupper.com. If you did not request this call, press nine.” That’s it; it’s very impersonal. You can also set it up to call someone else, as well as send text messages. It’s basically just a phone reminder service. But it is free. Wakerupper can deliver your wake up calls, remind you to deposit your check before the bank closes, and tell your teenage daughter to come straight home when she gets out of school for absolutely no charge. They even suggest that you use it to “escape from a boring date or meeting.” Fees from your telephone, mobile, and or SMS service may still apply, but Wakerupper won’t take a penny from you.
The one problem I see with this service right now is its test call feature. Someone could send out a lot of calls and messages just to harass people without having to sign up for the service, and without being immediately noticed. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t think very highly of a company that provided the means for others to spam me.
All in all, the idea being Wakerupper isn’t really original enough for it to be exciting. It’s in closed beta now, and only available in the U.S. and Canada. It has been optimized for the iPhone, though, which may catch the attention of some. It still strikes me as more of a toy than a service, though. Play with it at www.wakerupper.com.
