8apps - Productive Social Networking

You can Facebook, Myspace, and LiveJournal all you want, but when it comes down to it these are all additions to your life online—not enhancements. 8apps, a Jonkenpon project, presents itself as a social network that actually enhances your online working experience with eight indispensable applications.

Thus far, four of the eight proposed applications are available for usage—Handshake, the social network; Orchestrate, the task manager; Blueprint, for brainstorming on projects; and Pinpoint, the meeting scheduler. In Handshake you can connect to other people and discuss whatever topic comes up; it’s also useful for finding people to collaborate with on projects. You and your contacts can share tasks and brainstorm together in Orchestrate and Blueprint, and set up meetings in Pinpoint. You can keep tabs on all of it from your Dashboard.

8apps is bound to be helpful for all types of people, especially those such as traveling businesspeople, telecommuters, and students who cannot always meet face to face with coworkers. And those who do not need 8apps to enhance their work experience can still network with people who have similar interests and collaborate on projects for fun.

I love 8apps, which is currently in private beta testing, and recommend everyone to try and get an invite to it to experience its development. Learn more about it at 8apps.com.

The bottom line is that it’s another social networks. There are way too much out there..
And what’s with the 8? my profile aggregator is called 8hands.
What’s so special about this number?

You’re absolutely right–there are way too many social networks out there. But what I like about 8apps is that it combines the helpful aspects of other social networks, adds the features of online organizers, and doesn’t have all the crap (at least not yet). I don’t know how the founders of 8hands came up with its name, but 8apps is named so because of the eight applications that make it up (only four of them are available for usage at the moment, but eight are being developed).
8apps may turn out to be just as annoying and redundant as other social networks in time, but it sure doesn’t feel like one. So long as it stays that way I’ll probably continue to like it.
