Be Selfless on Gleamd

Gleamd, a semi-social networking site, allows you to “Shed a little light on someone” as its Web site proudly proclaims. Unlike other networking sites where you make yourself the star of your own page – Gleamd allows you to upload bios, pictures and accomplishments of others.
Gleamd has hopes of promoting people who are lesser known, in an attempt to increase their popularity by notifying the world of their accomplishments. However, the site is filled with very well-known actors, CEO’s of large companies among other affluent individuals.
Here’s a typical Gleamd bio:

While you are not allowed to submit information on yourself, I’m sure many spotlight hungry people are having a friend or coworker submit bios to Gleamd on their behalf. Once you are written about, you can claim to be that person.
Once bios are submitted, they are then voted on by Gleamd users. You can “follow them” as a way of voting for them and it increases their popularity. The higher the popularity ratings, the better chance you will be viewed by more people. This increases traffic to that bio and increases everyone’s knowledge of that individuals accomplishments overall. It’s a nice idea – featuring other people and being modest enough to spend time online promoting the work of others.
It’s unsure of what makes the huge social networking sites popular; advertising yourself, learning about other people or both. Either way, Gleamd will plausibly be super-huge – made popular by an un-egotistical group of people.
