Electronics manufacturer GRESSO, recently launched a high end luxury phone range “Avantgarde.” Release is expected towards the end of 2007 and starting prices will be around $7,000. That right, seven thousand dollars for a phone. And that’s the “basic” model. The top of the range Avantgarde Sol, is expected to sell for around $10K.
So what do you get for your ten grand?
- A Gresso operating system based on the new mobile 6 Windows standard.
- A TFT deisplay supporting 65K colors.
- A built in 2 megapixel camera.
- Support for Outlook, Pocket MSN, EMS/MMS/SMS, Bluetooth.
- An organizer, calculator and an MP3 player.
Sound familiar? So why is this phone ten thousand dollars?…… Because the case is made from 200 year old African Blackwood and the keyboard is in Roman numerals. I have enough trouble managing a normal one let alone one that uses Roman numerals. The keyboard also has a special “scratch resistant TITANIC covering.” Hmmm…How on earth this justifies a $10,000 price tag is beyond me, but if you are reading this Mr. Gresso, I would be happy to translate your webpage from Engrish into English for a small fee. A couple of free phones perhaps?

Okay I thought the gold plated apple was a little on the absurd side, but this is just freakin rediculous. At least the apple has a lot of functinal purposes, but a 10k phone? the sad thing is I bet these damn things become the IT item.
