Sony Cybershot DSC-W80
Sony make decent digital cameras, there’s no getting away from that fact. Say what you like about Sony being a TV maker, they make damn good cameras. This latest offering from Sony, the DSC-W80 has the capability to connect directly to an HDTV with high definition output, so if you fancy the idea of seeing your photos blown up to TV screen size, here it is.
It’s fair to say that the current range of Sony Cameras is confusing. I can never work out which model is which, but this one sits firmly in the middle of the range and if you are looking for a mid range, mid price, good quality camera, this one’s a good bet.
Main features include:
- 7.2 Megapixel resolution
- Image stabilization
- Face detection
- Component Video output
- 2.5” LCD screen
- 340 shot battery life
My only real issues with this, and all of Sony’s cameras is that they come with a very small built in memory. This one, in fact, only allows about 10 pictures at maximum resolution, so the first thing you must do is go out and but a memory stick. The reason I have an issue with it, is that it effectively disguises the true price of the camera. The other problem is the charger speed. It takes a good 4 ½ hours to charge the battery. Too long I think.
Picture quality compares favorably with the competition, but there is noticeable fall off in the corners. The main thing I like about this camera compared to the competition is the fact that it also has an optical viewfinder. I usually take photos out in the sunshine, so that’s a real bonus for my failing eyes.
You can get it from amazon in 3 different colors:
