Sony HDR-CX7 Camcorder Review

If you are in the market for a good looking, middle of the range high definition camcorder that you don’t need a degree in mechanical engineering to use, take a look at the Sony HDR-CX7.

I think it’s fair to call this one a point ‘n’ shoot, despite the relatively high price point. What I like about it is the fact that Sony are acknowledging the fact that most people don’t use most of the features built in to their camcorder and are saying, “OK, this is easy to use and doesn’t have too many buttons, so feel free to let the wife have a go. But it still looks cool and it’s high definition so what are you waiting for?”

It’s easy to use, produces reasonable quality and compared to some of the competition, it’s tiny. It’s Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar has a 10x optical zoom, and a focal length of 5.4 – 54mm. It’s a good lens too. Image quality is good when you consider how small this is, it’s well designed, looks good and says Sony on the box. What more can you say?

I like it a lot, and although the price tag will keep many budget consumers away, I think it’s worth hanging around and seeing if someone like Amazon or Ebay start getting a few used ones soon.
