Kodak EasyShare M853 review

Kodak like most of the other manufacturers are choosing to hide the true cost of their camera range by including a fairly redundant amount of built-in memory. The M853 is no different in this respect, it includes a useless 11MB of usable memory which will hold a staggering NINE photos at the highest quality setting. So expect to add a few bucks to the price for a memory stick. Oh and an AC adapter unless you want to spend several hours charging the battery through a USB port on your PC.

The camera itself is nothing special and has the usual features for a camera in this price range: built-in flash, a 37-111mm lens, LCD display, SD memory card expansion slot, 8.2 megapixel resolution and a range of built-in special effects and shooting programs. Are you asleep yet?

Picture quality is nothing special either, with soft images, a lot of bleed off around the edges of the image and a fair amount of detail loss. But, it is easy to use, fairly cheap and comes with a decent software bundle. There are better alternatives around and in my opinion, the Sony DSC-W80 is a far better bet. And you can get it in purple.
