Sanyo ICR-PS390RM PCM Digital Voice Recorder

Sanyo announced their latest assault on the digital voice recorder market this morning: the ICR-PS390RM

PCM is an acronym for Pulse-code Modulation and by all accounts gives the best possible voice recording and many Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD movies use uncompressed PCM for audio. The ICR-PS390RM, has 8GB of internal memory, which should provide 12 hours of recording in PCM mode or 1116h in MP3 mode. It runs on one AAA battery and weighs in at only 49 grams.

The digital voice recorder market is rarely considered by the US suppliers, but in Japan for instance, there is steady growth in this area with around 100 million units produced yearly. Small potatoes compared to the MP3 market, but still a sizeable one.

The Sanyo ICR-PS390RM PCM Digital Voice Recorder is due for release in November and I will certainly be interested to see how well the stereo mike works. I doo like Sanyo’s name for the range, “DIPLY TALK,” or “DIPURITOKU,” and wonder what they were going for with that name. I’m not sure which is more of a mouthful, DIPPLY TALK or ICR-PS390RM. Any suggestions and comments are more than welcome.
