A new startup called Recommendr will do exactly what you might be thinking – recommends products.Recommendr’s mission is to help you shop online. This service will help locate product recommendations, write your own recommendation, find shopping friends, and complete more research on products before you buy them. Start by logging on and either Request Help by entering keywords of the products your surfing for, search by people or by product, or recommend a product yourself.

Like a social network, Recommendr is an online community where people can give and receive product recommendations. Users can directly ask the community to help them with their specific product needs by posting a request. The community can then share their wisdom by recommending products to specific requests.

One blog interviewed Eric Goh, the co-founder of Recommendr. Responding to the question, “what is Recommendr trying to solve?”

“The growing number of products and the proliferation of information make it increasingly difficult to find, select, and purchase the right product. A typical online shopping process involves researching a wide selection of items, getting opinions from people, reading reviews and forums, looking for deals, and then organizing and analyzing the gathered information before making a purchase. Currently, this iterative process involves using multiple sites where the burden of compiling and understanding the information rests on the consumers. This makes the shopping process frustrating, tedious and repetitive.”

I could not agree with Eric Goh any more. I think that is why this new startup will become quite successful. Recommendr is the first site that I have seen where you can directly get recommendations from a community. Simply brilliant!
