Sony Ericsson W890i announced

Sony Ericsson announced yet another Walkman phone range lat week and the W890i tops the new range with an impressive set of specifications. If you like thin phones, this is the one for you: a staggering 9.9 mm thick. Now that’s pretty thin for a phone with these sort of specs. How Sony manage to jam a battery in there as well is pretty amazing. Here’s a quick rundown of the specs:

Screen

* 262.144 color TFT
* 240×320 pixel

Memory

* 26 MB Phone Memory
* Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™) support

Networks:

* EDGE
* GSM 850
* GSM 900
* GSM 1800
* GSM 1900
* HSDPA
* UMTS 2100
Sizes

* 104 x 46.5 x 9.9 mm
* 4.1 x 1.8 x 0.4 inches

Weight
* 78 gr
* 2.8 oz

You would expect an extremely limited battery life on a gadget this size, but Sony Ericsson are claiming 4.5 hours talk time, 13 days standby time on 3G and an unbelievable 9.5 hours talk time and 15 days standby on GSM. They also claim the W890i can play back music for 20 hours, or make 3 hours of video calls.

Once again with a phone of these dimensions, those of us with full size fingers are going to have trouble using the key pad, but SE have actually made an attempt to produce buttons a little larger than a pin head and this is the best you can hope for. Expect to seethi and the rest of the new range released in the US some when after the new year. Me? I’ll be rushing out and buying an 880i as soon as I can get one for $100.
