Thinkpad T61p revealed

Mitsuo Horiuchi, head of Thinkpad’s Yamato design office, today revealed the philosophy behind the T61p, Thinkpad’s latest offering.

Much effort has gone into making the keyboard as ergonomic as possible, with a new, indented key design which will alleviate stress to the user.

The T61p is apparently 20% stronger than it’s predecessor, the T60, and at last, comes with a wide screen display instead of the usual 4:3 ratio. Shock absorbing capabilities and a titanium casing combined with a 17 inch or 24 inch display put this laptop in a position to appeal to personal users instead of the usual IBM corporate clones, which is, no doubt, their intention.
Mr. Mitsuo was at great pains to explain the new keyboard design, but my sources in Japan had a little trouble with the English translation, and the best I can offer at the moment is, “The key is dent in cylinder condition, does the trapezoid which shaves foreward largely. As for this, when pushing the key with the finger, in order not to touch the key foreward, because you consider. In addition, [ the space ] putting on the key, being shaved, it is. Because to push this cheapness is pursued.”

I got the impression the new design will relieve stress on the user, take less effort to be depressed and spring back to it’s starting position quicker, allowing faster, more efficient typing.

I have included a few slides from the presentation, so any Japanese speakers are welcome to offer me a better translation.
