The Nikon D3, released a couple of weeks ago has created quite a stir in the camera buff world. Being a recovering camera buff myself, there is one word that describes their attachment to the latest, greatest, most expensivest piece of kit – fanatical. It doesn’t matter if the chances of your best ever photograph being hung on the wall of the local art gallery is zero – if you are into cameras, you are going to want a D3.

James Russell at The Luminous Landscape tested a pre-production model at the Osaka AIF world track and field games.
Cliff Mautner is extremely impressed.
