Altec Lansing M604 Powered Zune Speakers

XdB bass-enhancement technology seems to be saving the Altec Lansing 604 speaker system from the usual tinniness associated with speaker boxes of this size. The 604 has a surprisingly deep bass considering the su0ize of the box, which measures only 14 by 8.2 by 5.4 inches (W x H x D) I’m not quite sure how they managed it without a sub woofer. I wouldn’t exactly call it HiFi, but it’s pretty good.

Although designed primarily for the Microsoft Zune range, the M604 includes a universal MP3 cradle that will hold almost any other player, including an iPod.

Price wise, this is possibly the best bang for the buck available right now. Recommended retail price is $149.99 but there are already substantial discounts to be had – Amazon are knocking them out for less than $90. And their customer reviews are giving it 4.5 stars out of 5 - from 45 reviews.

I like it, and at this price, it is actually worth the money. It manages to look as though it was even designed to play music, but, as always, I don’t understand how a true stereo sound can be produced from speakers this close together. It certainly compares favorably with the other budget systems on the market.
