Wooden Ear phones from Japan

Posted on 31 December 2007 by Mark Knowles

On the 26th December, Nippon Victor (JVC) announced the introduction of a new set of ear phones. The HP-FX500 ear phones are made with a wooden casing, which apparently transmits sound faster than traditional materials ( i.e. plastic or aluminium) is shaped an a dome, and increases the quality of treble playback considerably.

Vibration loss is also decreased and the unit has built-in damping, presumably from the wood itself, which decreases vibration in the cord.

The phones come with 3 sizes of silicon earpieces, to fit a range of people along with a 0.8 meter cord and a 0.7 meter extension cord.

They are dynamic type phones with a playback frequency of 8Hz – 25,000 Hz and a 200mW maximum input and weigh in at 7.5grams not including the cord.

Certainly a nice looking set of headphones, and anyone out there considering a phone with built in stereo speakers, please feel free to give these arty instead of annoying everyone in earshot.

Release date is February 2008 and the Japanese price is set to be around $140.
