The Johnson quote is somewhat misleading. If he is implying that Microsoft Office would cost $10000, that is just false and likely assumes buy full retail boxes which no business should ever do.

If he is refering to an entire infrastructure for $10,000 then I would argue that you are getting something much more robust and secure that Google Apps. Think about it, do you really want patient information readily accessible anywhere in the world in an unauditable manor? I think Google Apps is a great productivity suite, but this specific example with healthcare is one where people should raise an eyebrow rather than pat them on the back. I sincerely doubt this would meet certain regulatory requirements in healthcare.

If business continuity, privacy and security are the pillars of your organization, a combination of investments have to be made in both private infrastructure as well as online services. Software + Services.

What I like about eDeskOnline is that it actually turns into a virtual desktop, creating a more realistic way to handle some of your projects. Very cool.

I think there are various online office suites which are having the same features, Office suites like Zoho,Thinkfree,eDeskOnline etc., I chose to be with eDeskOnline as INTEGRATES all my personal information like my Website Content Management system with many other features.

That was one I did not mention. I have a few friends that use that one also. I have not tried it myself yet, but I am sure it is used similarly.

Thanks Jim

I took advantage of Clemson's student discount: Microsoft Office for Mac @ $10, so I can't complain about that.

On the other hand, my wife has NeoOffice on her MacBook and that's done well enough for a free open source office-type suite for her.
